My younger self, Shirley Ann Hershey, the main character of Blush, now has her own Twitter account.

This account does not replace my @Shirleyhs account, active since 2009.

The idea, to give the persona of my memoir her own voice, was the brain child of Evan McCarthy, who works at Herald Press, but is on his way out the door to get married and go to graduate school. Thanks, Evan, for all your creative idea, but I’m feeling a little stranded here with little Shirley Hershey.

  • What does Shirley talk about?
  • Is she a 1960’s plain girl visiting current America?
  • Whom does she follow?

What would you like to see Shirley Hershey do, say, tweet, follow?

Do you follow any fictional or nonfictional characters? Shirley is following the enormously popular and sometimes sacreligious @kingofthejews (Jesus Christ) and is learning to know Jane Austin characters via @thelizziebennet.

Tweeting as my younger self could be a lot of fun — I think!

Help me make it more so by offering your suggestions below.

86 Days Until Blush LaunchesMy New Beginning: I already gave Shirley two tweets. I’m itchin’ to give her more, but I need to help her find her voice. Have you seen it anywhere?

What’s your New Beginning today? Thanks to Warm Ginger for asking for the visual icon above.

Your new post prompted me to check my twitter account where I am known as martabeaman, Marta being the von Trapp daughter husband Cliff identified me with in Sound of Music long, long ago.

I seldom check my Twitter account as most of my followers connect with me through Facebook. Today’s resolve: not adding any more virtual identities. Tomorrow? Who knows!

I understand completely. I’ll see if Shirley Hershey can find you online, just in case you decide to come out to play sometime. 🙂

Thanks for bringing back the icons. They’re mini everyday masterpieces which is why I missed them. 🙂

I too have a Twitter account that I never check. If I did though, I’d like to read Shirley Hershey’s opinions on the world she’s in now. What does she love and why? Who does she agree/disagree with and why? What seems crazy/beautiful to her about life in 2013? Are women playing the role in society she imagined?

You’d also be reaching a wider audience if Shirley Hershey joins in with some of the trending topics and simply tweeted her opinion via the hashtags.
